Bumblebees and Ladybugs went to the Tacoma Public Library today. Thanks to children's librarian Ms. Margaret we got to tour the Maurice Sendak exhibit where we were delighted to see original artwork from stories we love, go upstairs to the children's area and learn all about the public library system. We found out that the dinosaurs are in the non-fiction 500s section. We looked books up on the computer and discovered you can check out up to 60 items at a time. We also got to take any book off the shelf that we wanted to and Ms. Margaret said people who have the job of a pager will re-shelf them for us! We heard some fun and a little scary monster stories and came back to school with a book bag for each child as a souvenir!

 The Ladybugs and Bumblebees were excellent audience members at Seattle Children's Theatre. We were so lucky that the weather was nice enough to have a lunch by the fountain. Although not during the picture, the fountain provided lots of entertainment with a music and water show!

 Thanks to our wonderful Bumblebee parents we had a magnificent Halloween celebration! The games, the food, the art, the friends, the parade and the fun were all the best. Such a great time.

 Pumpkin Smash! A math game involving counting and strategy, looking for algorithms to increase their chance of winning. They played with their 3rd, 4th and 5th grade mentors. Sometimes they won and sometimes we won! You may figure out your partner's strategy, but when you change partners it's a whole new game! The kids altogether played almost 500 games in our mentor hour. It was exciting and challenging for all!

 We are studying bats! Students have learned a great deal about all different kinds of bats. They have wondered about habitat, babies, food, their life cycle and echolocation. They have watched videos, read books, talked to people informed about bats, and made discoveries that inevitably lead to more questions. They are getting to be quite the bat experts.
